Most online ecards are free, but some you have to pay for. I've seen both kinds, and the paid ecards are more elaborate with animation, but they aren't always better than the free ones. Some paid ecards are quite decorative though, so it pays to look around at the various ecards to find the best one to send.
As for me, I love getting ecards in the email, especially for no reason. It really makes me feel there is someone out there who cares enough to send it. So there's no reason to think that if you send someone an ecard, even a free one, that they won't appreciate your thoughtfulness.
